Woman house

Woman house is one of the most effective institutions of the NUSW at the regional level and is part of the central of the NUSW. Its role is to implement the NUSW programs at the regional level.

After the establishment of the secretariat of social affairs and women’s promotion as a governmental organ in 2003, many institutions became part of the recently-established secretariat such as women professional training schools, disability centers and the blind centers which had been part of the NUSW infrastructure.

Facing this new situation, there was a necessity to have women’s centers at the regional level.

It is worth-mentioning that the establishment of the secretariat of social affairs and women’s promotion occurred due to the expansion of the social field within the NUSW which made it difficult for the latter to have enough time dealing with other issues such as politics, media, culture and economy.

Establishing woman houses, the NUSW has been able to save up time and efforts while implementing its strategic orientation program and consolidating the effective participation of women in all national and international organization by offering them learning, training and work opportunities at the regional level.

The main facilities of the woman houses:

Administration: it is in charge of following up all profiles and implementing syllabus and strategies elaborated by the department of women’s promotion.

The objective is to enable women to acquire a craft or profession to support themselves and their families and to know more about livelihood methods that will help them to cope with the current socio-economic situation.

The administration manages all cultural, media and cooperation centers at the wilayas.

Conference room: at the centers there are conference rooms where women can attend lectures, seminars and public forums to enrich their knowledge receiving a huge amount of information.

Bathroom and make-up rooms: in each women’s center there is place where women can look after themselves and appear as beautiful as they can during the working hours and keep flexibility, positive feelings and interaction away from the daily boring routine, at least for a short time.

Expos and kindergartens: woman houses include expos where women show the products of their cooperatives and photographic expos that reflect the situation of women both in the occupied territories and the refugee camps. Meanwhile, the kindergartens help the trainees and workers taking care of their children and teaching them basic skills allowing them to adopt to the new situation in the best manner. These centers never stop providing support and services to the disable people and those who are in need. There are administrations and local houses in each municipality and neighborhood. The local houses include two departments; alphabetization and orientation classes.

Media and cultural center:

is one of the centers in charge of culture and media issues. The center was established in 1997 and belongs to the media and culture department of the NUSW. The center contains a conference room, library, classrooms, in addition to a cyber-café.

Since the constitutive congress in 1985, the media, culture and orientation have been the core components of the NUSW programs.
